You Are Beautiful...

...a simple phrase that rings true in the lives of every single person on earth. You are beautiful because you were created by a beautiful and holy Lord. Even if you have not accepted Christ as your Lord, you are still His creation.

For you formed my inward parts;
    you knitted me together in my mother's womb.
 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
    my soul knows it very well.
 My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
    intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
    the days that were formed for me,
    when as yet there was none of them.
Psalm 139:13-16

If only we could understand the depth of these few scriptures -- evidence of God's deep love for us as His work of art. God set people apart as the most precious work of His six-day creation. We are made in His image as nothing else!

 So today, rejoice! You are beautiful because of a beautiful Creator!

Question and Answer

Q:I am 12; do you think that I am too young to wear any kind of makeup???
A:12 is such a wonderful age! You are starting to learn how to make wise decisions and developing godly character. When I was 12, I loved all the pretty things of life :) (makeup included), but my mother was wise in leading me into the transition of womanhood slowly. On very special occasions, my parents allowed me to wear a little blush, under eye cover, and lip gloss.

Youthful bloom is on your side at your age. Celebrate this season of life and cherish the days when makeup is not necessary. Makeup is fun, but don't be in a rush. This step of womanhood will come sooner than you can imagine! I had friends who were allowed the liberties of using makeup at younger ages than 12, but in a sense, the drive to fast-forward their lives stole away their days of youth. Makeup will make you look older, so I encourage you to look into your heart and see if there's a possibility you are a little discontent with the age you are right now. This is a question I ask myself very often, even at the age of 21. Desiring to become a woman is a worthy goal, but keep sight of growing a heart that is close to the Lord, and your girlhood will transition into the woman whose beauty will never fade.
Seek guidance from your parents. Honoring their request is far more important than my advice. Regardless of when you start wearing makeup, start slow. Use colors that fade into your skin tones that make you glow rather than stand out :)
P.S. Remember, it's important, no matter your age, to take care of your face. Washing, toning, and moisturizing are good habits to start now so you will keep your youthful glow for years to come.

Wear Your Colors ~ Green

Our friend Kermit the Frog has been singing about being green for many years, but what do you think about the color?

Is it easy wearing green?

Green is the first of the three secondary colors we will talk about. Secondary colors come from the three primary colors: red, blue, and yellow. If you mix the colors together in different amounts and combinations, you will get new colors! So how do you create green? If you say yellow and blue, then you are correct.

yellow + blue = GREEN

Green is a grand color from emerald to lime, but selecting the right green for you is important. The wrong green can make you look green in the face :/

Green is a lot like red. Determine if you look better in blue or yellow to see if you are more cool or warm. Cool gals should try to select greens with more blue, while warm gals need a green with more yellow.

Try your green with an array of colors and have fun being green! ;)

Best Looks...

...from the spring/summer look books!
We rummaged the Internet to find fabulous outfit inspirations, and this is what we found. As we searched these photos out, we wanted to separate the "wheat from the chaff." Let's be honest, there are a lot of lewd outfits in the look books of 2012. We were encouraged to see many modest separates such as maxi/midi dresses and skirts, but many designers even make those garments very immodest.

We have found these few photos to prove we can be modest, feminine, and express personality through clothing. We hope you will enjoy and will be inspired!

What does He think?

A girl stands before the mirror for the hundredth time and thinks to herself...

"What will he think about this outfit?"

Don't deny it! I'm guessing you've contemplated the same thing, too. I'll raise my hand and be the first to admit that it's passed through my mind. Most women grapple with selecting apparel that can bring approval and attention from men, but I'm going to say something that might shock you.

It's okay to think this. In fact, you should think this.

Now, please don't leave the blog and remove your following of Silk and Purple. Let's flesh this statement out. It may be good to reflect on these thoughts in front of our mirrors, but we might be thinking about the wrong he or how we should want the he's in our lives to think about us. Being secure in the fact that a woman is created to complete a man is an important foundation.

 "Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”
Genesis 2:18

We have a deep-rooted desire within us to be attractive to man because the Lord created us to be the completion of him. We are not complete without man and vice versa. Man and woman's unity is a beautiful picture of Christ and His church.

So who are the he's in our lives at this point? Dads, brothers, grandfathers, uncles, pastors, elders, teachers, and friends. Later the Lord might bless us with a husband and sons! As we talked about in a previous post, we have a big responsibility to help the he's in our lives now, and the ones yet to come, with regards to promoting purity. God places all the he's in our lives for a beautiful reason. We may not know why, but we can trust His sovereignty and be a wonderful blessing to the men around us.

Asking what he will think about my outfit is important, but maybe we should expand the one question into two:

What does HE think about this outfit?
and
How will it affect the other he's in my life?

Our ultimate goal should be what the ultimate He thinks of how we dress. God is our He who calls us to be holy as He is holy. When we strive to please Him, then we have success!

The second he we should think about when we stand in front of our mirrors is our father. Fathers are placed in our lives by God to be our leaders until marriage. Our dads want to protect us, and they want to make sure all the other he's in the world know that we are treasure and not trash. If we are striving to please Christ first, our fathers second, we find that attaining the goal of purity practiced is a great deal easier. Dressing to make guys lust after us is a sin and is no way to train our hearts to be committed to our future husbands.

Whenever I do think of the other he's in my life when selecting apparel, I evaluate how I want to be perceived.

  • Does this outfit promote purity?
  • Will a young man desire to protect me rather than fight lustful ambition?
  • Do I exemplify a woman who is of high worth?
  • Am I cultivating a noble reputation or one of wily character?

So I will continue to evaluate the way I am dressing, and I hope you will join me in asking, What does HE, our Lord and Savior, think?
