F.S. ~ Review and Q&A

It has been quite a while since we have glanced back for a Finishing School Review. Before we proceed any further, it is time to look back at autumn and winter.

In October we had Tips on Punctuality. Remember that it is important to show courtesy in being on time, not too late and not too early!

We also looked at a video from Emily Post on proper table manners. When in doubt, watch the hostess!

In November, soup was on! Be sure to remember that the proper way to eat soup is to push the spoon away from you, never slurp, and do not blow on your soup.

Later in November, we had hot tea. Just as with soup, it is not polite to blow or slurp your tea.

1. Get their wish list.
2. Trust your judgment.
3. Stick to your budget.
4. Buy it when you see it.
5. Start a gift closet.

Later in December was the importance of a mending kit. Sooner or later, you will be grateful for it!

Here are the basics:
1. Don't forget to give your name.
2. Be careful of the tone of your voice.
3. Focus on your call.
4. Speak clearly and not too fast.
5. Have respect.

Then began the Wedding series...
How to be a wonderful bridesmaid followed by how to be a wonderful wedding guest. Finally, the wedding attire chart.

Do you have an etiquette question? Send your question to seasonsinclair@gmail.com or leave it in a comment to this post. I will choose several questions to answer in the next few posts!

Reviews

A big thank you to Mrs. Kelly, author of Generation Cedar, for posting about Silk and Purple! Be sure to drop by and see what is going on at Generation Cedar.
"Silk & Purple is a delightful new site, focused on encouraging young, single women to live honorably for the Lord.
Young ladies can find all sorts of encouragement there, as well as very practical direction for living out their faith. From fashion, etiquette and health to growing in the wisdom and knowledge of the Lord, Silk & Purple is a place your daughters can find support, guidance and encouragement from other young women walking in their shoes. In the midst of a culture tugging them away from truth, I am thrilled for places that help our girls grow into women of God.
"Be sure check it out and let them know what you think!"

Runway Reviews

Fashion shows are as interesting as designers. Many designers create artwork to wear, so a fashion show is a lot like going to an art gallery in motion. Runway shows vary from high avant-garde fashion to the best trends for everyday women.

Fashion shows are not foreign to Mrs. Debbie (Abby and Jacqueline's mom and Silk and Purple's editor extraordinaire). In her younger days, Mrs. Debbie was a model and modeling director of a school and agency in Atlanta, Georgia. The lessons she learned through this time in her life flow through this blog, and I am personally grateful for her transparency and guidance in leading me to know what true beauty really is.

Last evening, we had a fun time at the REAL Cover Girl runway show. The evening consisted of delicious hors d'oeuvres, a video of street interviews, a helpful message about what a REAL cover girl looks like, and a runway show. The emphasis that true beauty is not only exterior was very encouraging. The speaker personified REAL as Reflection, Essential, Ageless, and Lifestyle. The video was played of some interesting interviews of people on the street. One young man was asked if he was ever distracted during his church's worship service by women's dress choices, and with a firm head nod, he said yes.

The runway show was filled with bright, bold colors, and color-blocking styles. Many of the outfits were reflective of the model's lifestyle -- not over-the-top artistic, just fun and flattering to every woman's age and shape. A few outfits could have used a little more creativity in making them effortlessly modest. Most could be changed with a little extra layering. The models were exuding joy as classic, graceful music made for a fun atmosphere!

Here are some favorite photos and fashions of the evening.

Reviews

Be sure to check out Celebrating Motherhood Everyday and read Mrs. Robin's review about Silk and Purple.

"I have a blog that I would like for you all to take a look at. Silk and Purple is a new blog that a small group of some young ladies in our community have started. The blog is truly amazing, just in all of the work that they have put into getting it started and it looks great. If you have an older daughter, or even if you don't, this blog is sure to be added to your favorites list. More than just fashion advice, the young ladies over at Silk & Purple strive to make a statement that beauty is more than just skin deep. They truly try to honor Christ in their posts and bring Him into the middle of every issue. Raising daughters in this culture is hard, so when encouragement from like-minded sisters in Christ comes along, I for one know that my oldest daughter is very grateful for the Godly advice that is offered. Every thing from fashion advice and recipes to much needed posts on speech and using words carefully. The wit and humor mixed with truth and good advice is sure to make this blog a favorite of ours for quite a while.  I also appreciate the honoring attitude that the girls display towards their parents, consistently speaking highly of them.

"So go on over, give it a look."
