Sun Bathing Goddess
Tan is beautiful.
If you don't believe me, then look at these ads. They agree!
Well, what do you think? Obviously when you have a tan, guys carry you around on a surfboard like a sun goddess...
...hummmmmmmm.
Girls put a lot of time, and thought, into the color of their skin. We lay out at the beach or poolside and oil ourselves down to soak a brown glow. Or we hit the tanning beds in the cold seasons. American girls are fascinated with being brown, but what about if you can't tan? Are you an outcast?
Have you ever thought about skin color? Dark, light, or creamy -- it all is like colors of dirt.
"Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature." ~ Genesis 2:7
I don't believe it's a coincidence! We were created from dirt.
Your skin tone is beautiful, not because of what the current culture may say, but because God chose to make you the color you are. Being tan is not sinful, and wanting to have a healthy summer glow is great, but don't dislike your color.
Tan or not, it's lovely!

Rainbow Connection Winner!
Thanks for all the entries! We loved looking at your awesome creations!
Congratulations, Cassie Hope!!!
Congratulations, Cassie Hope!!!
You did a beautiful job with mixing colors in an oh-so-fab way!
"I chose coral as my main colour because it is so cheerful but also very elegant and classy. It works especially nicely with blues, both bright ones and dark ones, and can absolutely top off any outfit either as a feature colour or as an accent. It can be worn to a special event or merely as a bright and stylish addition to a casual outfit. I paired my coral features mainly with blues, and the overall effect reminds me of beautiful summer and spring colours and is bound to present a cheerful and friendly countenance."

Wear Your Neutrals ~ Brown
When I think of the color brown, I think of chocolate and coffee.
{Not a bad thought... Now I'm craving a mocha late`.}
Brown comes in many shades and looks generally grand on everyone. A chocolate-colored skirt or blouse are always great fall-back pieces to add class to your wardrobe. Brown can be bold when paired with a pink or blue, or be a subtle classic alternative to black. I love brown with creams for a soft, warm style.

Wear Your Neutrals ~ Gray
Gray may not be the most happy of colors, but it is a part of your neutral palette.
From charcoal to silver, gray garments can be worked in to soften your wardrobe. If you have dark hair and light skin, gray can be a better option than black for a softer look.
Gray is a cool color, so if you look better in warm colors, you probably should avoid it. When I wear gray, I choose darker charcoals and smoky colors due to my warm complexion.

Wear Your Neutrals ~ Navy

The beautiful, red-headed clown that kept America laughing -- who can forget her iconic, navy polka-dot dress!
Navy is a beautiful color that is a great alternative to black.
Wear it with any color you please if it is a true navy, but make sure your navy is not too blue (such as a royal blue). Navy is perfect for red heads that don't want to be washed out by black. A common myth is you must match navy-colored accessories with a navy outfit, but this is not the case in 2012. Throw on a red shoe or any color or neutral to create your navy ensemble.

Wear Your Neutrals ~ Khaki
The grand color khaki!
Wear the right shade and it will make you glow! Wear the wrong shade and it will make you look sick! Khaki is oh-so-classic and offers a more cool alternative to black in the hot weather months.
Khaki comes in many different shades. To see what the true color is, look at the undertone of the color. Many khakis have a green, brown, yellow, or even purple undertone. As we've talk before, an undertone is the base of a color, but it is muted by the ending result of color.
Every one is different. You might look better with a more rich, dark khaki rather than a light one. Just try different variations of khaki to find the ones that best fit you!

Wear Your Neutrals ~ White
White is the color of simplicity and purity! Yet white seems to come with a lot of "rules."
"No white after Labor Day."
"No white before Easter."
"White should be worn on your wedding day as a symbol of purity."
"Don't wear white if you are attending a wedding."
Some of these white rules still apply today! Some, like the Easter and Labor Day ones, are rarely thought of unless you live in the Deep South. I think we can all agree to the last one. Just don't show up trying to "outdo" the bride ;)
Is white good for all skin types? Mostly. White generally makes skin seem darker, but it might make some skin types look washed out. Try a white skirt if you don't want it around your face.
Three things to keep in mind when wearing white:
- Give your teeth an extra scrub for a bright white smile :D
- Be mindful of what undergarments you choose. Be sure to have slips and camis to go under the garment.
- Carry a Tide-To-Go pen with you in case of spills.
Whites are basics in your wardrobe because of the clean, crisp look. So add some white to your life!

Wear Your Neutrals ~ Black
Let's get back to the basics.
Neutrals are lovely colors that go with almost everything in your wardrobe. Neutrals are oh-so classic that can be dressed up or down. Basics purchased in these colors will save you money for they don't go out of style.
So this week let's talk about black!
Black is the neutral that every girl needs in her closet. Black shoes, a black dress, and a black cardigan will give hundreds of possibilities, but unless you are wanting to look like the gloomy Wednesday Addams, break the black up with other colors and look for black garments that are elegant rather than grungy.
Now black is great, but not perfect for all. All redheads raise your hands. Black can wash you out, making you look sickly. If that's you, you don't have to completely avoid the color -- just be sure to wear a scarf or jewelry in colors that are good on you!

Wear Your Colors ~ Pink
Hot pink, fuchsia, coral, blush, rose, or just pink -- all these names for this extraordinary color.
Now before you start seeing pink elephants, let's ask this question: Is pink a good color for everyone's skin tone? Well, yes, but not all pinks work with all tones. Pinks come in dusty shades, electric shades, and pale ones. Usually we think of pink in a bright bubblegum shade or a baby pastel, but the world is filled with different shades. Try different shades to find your best fit. The right one can make you appear energetic and glowing.
Here are a few different color combinations for inspiration.

Wear Your Colors ~ Purple
You know we are excited about this week's color! ;)
Purple!!
Purple is the last of the secondary colors on the color wheel, and what a great one it is. The complementary color of purple is yellow. And this is how it is created:
red + blue = PURPLE
Purple is the color we have come to know and love here on Silk and Purple. Wearing purple is not that tricky, and is appropriate for most skin tones. It is helpful for you to determine if you should wear purples with a more red or blue tone. Purple has many names and shades -- violet, lavender, mulberry, and magenta, to name a few -- but whatever the name, try some in your life for a little royal feel.
Here are a few color combination inspirations:

Wear Your Colors ~ Orange
You can call it orange, tangerine, or coral. No matter the name, these colors are the most sought-out ones for this season!
Orange is one of the secondary colors.
red + yellow = ORANGE
Orange is a power-punch color. It is warm, energizing, exciting, and fun. Adding orange to your wardrobe can be easy with accessories. If you really like orange, find an orange dress in your perfect shade.
Here are a few color combinations to add some zing to the way you wear orange!

Wear Your Colors ~ Green
Our friend Kermit the Frog has been singing about being green for many years, but what do you think about the color?
Is it easy wearing green?
Green is the first of the three secondary colors we will talk about. Secondary colors come from the three primary colors: red, blue, and yellow. If you mix the colors together in different amounts and combinations, you will get new colors! So how do you create green? If you say yellow and blue, then you are correct.
yellow + blue = GREEN
Green is a grand color from emerald to lime, but selecting the right green for you is important. The wrong green can make you look green in the face :/
Green is a lot like red. Determine if you look better in blue or yellow to see if you are more cool or warm. Cool gals should try to select greens with more blue, while warm gals need a green with more yellow.
Try your green with an array of colors and have fun being green! ;)
