The Benefits of Blackberries

I am sure that most of you have enjoyed the taste of a sun-ripened blackberry. Picked fresh, blackberries are sweet and tangy at the same time, wonderful in yogurt and smoothies, and mouth-watering in warm blackberry cobbler. As you will see below, blackberries have many health benefits, so indulge yourself with this wonderful little berry!

-Blackberries strengthen blood vessels and fight heart disease.
-Blackberries are high in vitamins C, K, E, and A.
-Blackberries contain high amounts of fiber, which reduce the risk of diabetes and intestinal disease.
-Blackberries are packed with many anti-oxidants, which prevent and fight many forms of cancer.
-Blackberries contain Omega 3 fatty acids which reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease and improve brain function.

Blackberry Smoothie 

-2 cups fresh or frozen blackberries
-1 cup plain organic yogurt
-1 cup almond, rice, or hemp milk
-1/4 cup honey
-1 ripe banana
-1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth and creamy.
