Skin Care Sensations - Part 2

I don't know about you, but I love soap! Soap has been used since the beginning of time for cleansing people's skin and hair. But sadly, most of the soaps offered at today's supermarket contain many different harsh chemicals and dyes that are harmful to our skin. Our skin absorbs everything we put on it, and it then enters into our bodies. Therefore, it is very important that we use only natural soap products.

Here are some wonderful tried and true soap recipes from the book Natural Soapmaking.

Peppermint Refreshment Soap

-2 cups grated unscented natural soap
-1/4 cup coconut oil
-1/2 cup water
-10 drops peppermint essential oil
-5 drops rosemary essential oil
-5 drops eucalyptus essential oil
-5 drops tea tree essential oil
-1 teaspoon crushed dried peppermint leaves, optional

1. Melt soap, coconut oil, and water together in a medium saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally.
2. After soap has melted, remove from heat and stir in essential oils and peppermint leaves.
3. Immediately pour soap into plastic soap molds.
4. Allow to harden for 2 hours.
5. Pop soap from molds and place in a cool, dry spot for 2 weeks before using.

  1. You know you could go one step further and make you own soap completely from scratch (aka lye soap). My family has been wanting to do this for years ever since we watched the "Homestead Blessings: The Art of Soap Making" dvd. Thanks for sharing these recipes. I will have to try them sometime!
    Have a blessed 4th!
